Detailed Descriptions:

Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid)

Vitamin C has been praised by experts everywhere for its many benefits.  The body does not produce Vitamin C on its own, so you must supply this vital nutrient to the body through diet and supplementation. Vitamin C supports a healthy immune system, vision and cardiovascular health.

The Vitamin C in Canker Free is in the form of ascorbic acid.  This is beneficial because Vitamin C in this form is more easily absorbed into the body.  Vitamin C that is not in the form of ascorbic acid is much less effective.

Licorice Root Extract

Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) is a natural anti-inflammatory and is also used widely to help fight parasitic, bacterial and viral infections such as canker sores.  Licorice Root helps enhance microcirculation and heal mucous membranes, such as those found in the lining of the mouth.

Acidophilus

Acidophilus is found naturally in yogurts, cheeses etc.  It's primary benefit is as a "good bacteria".  Acidophilus helps maintain healthy levels of bacteria in the mouth and intestines by overpowering the bad bacteria.  It is historically used to lessen pain and speed the healing process of wounds.

Bioflavanoids

Bioflavonoids work in conjunction with Vitamin C to  help protect the body regulate inflammatory responses by the body. Fruits and vegetables are a good source of bioflavonoids naturally, and a diet lacking in these means you probably aren't getting enough.

L-Lysine

The amino-aid L-Lysine works very well for helping to the body prevent canker sores, and speed the healing of pre-existing sores. L-lysine has been recommended by dental professionals for years as a way to get rid of canker sores. A deficiency in L-Lysine is seen as one of the major causes of canker sores because many experts believe canker sores are caused by a virus; L-Lysine helps by overpowering the arginine levels in the blood. Arginine is needed by viruses in order to reproduce, so the less arginine in your system, the less ability a virus has to thrive.   L-Lysine also has many studies supporting reduced outbreaks in sufferers of cold sores.

Iron

Iron's primary purpose is to combine with copper and protein in the production of hemoglobin (blood) and myoglobin (muscles). Protein with iron is vital for transport of oxygen to the major organs. Iron is also linked with fatigue prevention (from anemia) and good skin tone.

Zinc

Zinc has many purposes. It helps with canker sore reduction by aiding in protein synthesis, collagen formation, wound healing, and maintaining the proper amount of Vitamin E in the body. Varying levels of Zinc deficiency have been linked to diminished wound healing ability and more frequent sores and infections. Zinc plays a vital role in the repair and revitalization of skin cells.

Garlic (powder)

Garlic (Allium sativum) is used as a natural antibiotic and helps stimulate the immune system.  Garlic  is a member of the Amaryllis family, along with onions, shallots and leeks.  Garlic has been shown to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and overall cardiovascular well-being.  The garlic in Canker Free is designed to break down in the digestive tract, so there are no odor or taste problems.

Garlic is considered by many to be the wonder drug among botanicals; worshipped by the ancient Egyptians, researched by Albert Schweitzer, and labeled by the Soviets as the "Russian Penicillin".  Garlic remains in high regard today by the countless numbers of people world-wide that use this incredible herb on a daily basis.

Folic Acid

A deficiency in Folic Acid has been linked to a lessening of the body's ability stop a canker sore.  Folic acid is required in the body for growth and cellular repair. It is also used by the body to form red blood cells and to help them mature. Folic acid is also very effective when combined with B-12, as two together aid in amino acid conversion and protein synthesis which is necessary to heal sores such as cankers sores.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is needed by the body to help regulate cell growth in the mucuous membranes (such as those found inside the mouth.Vitamin A deficiencies can easily be corrected by taking supplements.

B Vitamin Complex (B-1, B-2, B-6, B-12)

The B vitamin family is very important for the proper function of your brain and nervous system. Supplements with natural vitamin B can help with ulceration problems like canker sores. They also help with digestion and allergy, stress, depression, and many other problems.

The B vitamins are best when taken as a group or complex. They aid in protein synthesis and help maintain the health of skin and mouth. It is believed that a majority of those on an "American-style" diet are lacking in B vitamins. Also, those prone to tension, stress and worry tend to have significantly lower amounts of B vitamins. Canker sores and other mouth conditions have been linked to B vitamin deficiency.

Goldenseal Extract

Goldenseal extract has surged in popularity in recent years because of it contains the alkaloids berberine and hydrastineThese are reported to have natural antibacterial properties which specifically aid the mucous membranes of the body (such as in the mouth).  They both attack many types of bacterial and viral infections.  Berberine can also create a "calming" effect on the central nervous system.
